Question by sbrezins: Are there any recipes for cooking mushrooms and mushrooms only in a crock pot?
My wife just asked and I can’t find anything online. So are there any recipes/guidelines for cooking mushrooms (and only mushrooms) in a crock pot?

I wouldn’t cook them in the crock pot. I like them sauteed in butter/olive oil in a skillet, cast iron or copper bottom, is the best for mushrooms, I think anyway. The heavier the pan, the better the mushrooms turns out. Don’t add salt until the very end, this also makes them rubbery.

If you are going to stuff them, I’d bake them. Even when I make cream of mushroom soup, I do it on the stove. I think cooking them in a crock pot will make them very rubbery.

I would put a half a pound or pound of mushrooms in with a stick of butter or margarine and salt and pepper and let them cook on low for a couple of hours, check them, and see if I wanted to cook them some more. When just cooking vegetables in the crock pot, 2-3 hours on low has always been sufficient for me.

I found this on my favorite recipe site, allrecipes.com It uses 2 pounds of mushroom and I’d probably use the low sodium soy sauce and maybe tweak the other elements of the recipe, but I’ll bet these would be tasty.

    Ingredients
    2 cups soy sauce
    2 cups water
    1 cup butter
    2 cups white sugar
4 (8 ounce) packages fresh mushrooms, stems removed

    Directions
    1. In a medium saucepan over low heat, mix soy sauce, water and butter. Stir until the butter has melted, then gradually mix in the sugar until it is completely dissolved.
    2. Place mushrooms in a slow cooker set to low, and cover with the soy sauce mixture. Cook 8 to 10 hours, stirring approximately every hour. Chill in the refrigerator until serving.

you probably cannot find anything because a crock pot is generally used for slow long cooking and mushrooms cook in literally minutes.
Depending on what you want for an outcome, try it. Mushrooms won’t fall apart like potatoes do so they probably should cook okay.
