Question by Mystica: What is the best recipe for making cornbread from scratch?
I really like cornbread. It’s really good, but I can’t get the mix that often, so I thought I could make it from scratch. The problem is, I don’t know and can’t find a recipe. Please help.

Best answer:

Answer by sue
If you have the cornmeal in the little can or bag, the recipe is on the container.

1 cup flour
1 cup cornmeal
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 egg
1 cup milk
1/4 cup oil, melted butter, or something like that.

stir dry ingredients together. stir in wet ingredients until sort of blended, can still be a little lumpy.

pour into hot cast iron skillet or dutchoven that has a coating of oil on it. Bake in 400F oven 15 to 20 minutes.

from the Quaker Corn Meal can. Doesn’t matter whether you use white corn meal or yellow corn meal.

What do you think? Answer below!

Question by ruthiecrue2: What is a good recipe to use dry pinto beans in a bag?
I have some dry pinto beans in a bag. What can I do with them? Any good recipe ideas???

Best answer:

Answer by proud mamma
BEAN SOUP

1 pound assorted beans
2 bay leaves
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon dried basil
3 stalks celery, stringed and sliced thinly
1/2 lb baby carrots
1 onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 lb Italian sausage
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cans chicken stock
1 can diced or stewed tomatoes
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
salt and pepper, to taste
1 chicken bouillon cube
water to cover ingredients

Slice casings of sausage meat and crumble into a skillet. Add olive oil and saute over medium high heat until outside of sausage begins to brown. Add onion and saute until translucent. Add garlic near end. Sausage meat does not need to cook, only brown slightly. Do not allow garlic to brown.
Deglaze pan with chicken stock, and transfer contents of pan to Crock pot.

Add remaining ingredients except for tomatoes to Crock pot.

Set Crock pot to high setting and cook for 2 hours, then cook an additional 3-5 hours on low setting or until beans are tender.

Check occasionally to see if more liquid is required as beans expand during cooking. Add tomatoes during final hour of cooking.

Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Can be served over pasta or rice.

Note: When in season, fresh herbs may be substituted for dried for enhanced flavor.

What do you think? Answer below!

I have a lot of lemon trees in my garden and I want to make real lemonade with them but I can’t find a decent recipe. Can anyone help?

Best answer:

Answer by Curious1usa
Easy! Use the French cafe method –

Squeeze the lemon juice into a small glass pitcher, filtering out the seeds. Have another pitcher of cold water, and a bowl of sugar.

Pour the pure juice into a glass, add water, and sweeten to taste. Very continental!

Question by penny m: Do you go by cook books or recipes handed down from family and friends?
I enjoy the recipes handed down more, but one of favorite cookbooks is the 4 ingredient cookbook. Talk about saving time! When we have church dinners, we have wonderful desserts with ingredients you might not think about like 7-UP or Mountain Dew.
Lets have that recipe for potatoe wedges!

Best answer:

Answer by Karina
I use both. Sometimes I buy cook books just to have a good read. My favorite recipes have stood the test of time, and have been handed down for generations.

Question by illandri: What is the recipe for grass soup?
After reading David Rakoff’s book, ‘Don’t Get to Comfortable’, I wondered if there really was a recipe for grass soup. I looked and found several dozen ‘thai lemon grass soup’ recipes. Is there really a recipe card out there with Grass Soup written across the top?

Best answer:

Answer by kewl69charger
* 1 chicken, or a 2-3 pound package of chicken pieces
* 6 cups water
* 3 big leeks, chopped
* 3 stalks celery, chopped
* 1 potato, chopped
* 1 courgette (aka zucchini), chopped
* handful of parsley, minced
* salt and pepper

Microwave the chicken or chicken parts for 20 minutes. Let cool briefly, then cut off the chicken meat, reserving it for another dish. Plunge the bones, remnants, and jelly into a saucepan with the 6 cups of water, bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium and cook for 20 minutes. Strain, and return broth to the saucepan.

Bring the stock to a boil, then add leeks, celery, potato, parsley, and any other green veggies you might have on hand. Boil on medium-low heat for about 30 minutes.

season to taste
