Question by : How do you gt PAM cooking spray off vinyl and laminate flooring?
My son sprayed PAM cooking spray all over and tracked it on both vinyl and laminate flooring. After trying soap and water, there is still a very slippery residue that needs to be removed.

http://www.pam4you.com/pages/questions/answers/index.jsp PAM is olive oil.

I greased my hair once for a high school play and no detergent would remove it. I had to use corn starch to absorb it. That would be my first suggestion. Kind of like cleaning up an oil spill in the garage with cat litter.

I would try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser with a dry cloth to wipe right after using. I use the magic eraser to get stuck on cooking grease off my stove (you know the crud that builds up on the knobs and stuff) and it works like a charm.

Dawn dish soap or any dish soap should have gotten it out. Try white vinegar or rubbing alcohol.

    Pam is just oil.
If the first attempt did not work, repeat with a different product- I would try a bit of clothing detergent if you do not have something like Goo be gone on hand.
    Rinse thoroughly.

Also, you do not indicate your son’s age. Even when my kids were small, unless they had created a danger (like broken glass), I always gave them the same tools I used and “let” them help.

“You are big enough to make the mess, so I guess you are big enough to help clean it up”

Having help is a good thing and could help him take responsibility for his actions. It could also be that after doing all that cleaning mom is now too tired to do some special activity he anticipated today, so mom might need some quiet time to recuperate from this extra work. Maybe he can read that storybook to you to help you rest for 5 minutes?

Scrub the floor with shaving cream and a scrub brush. (Any white shaving cream works.) Then wipe well with wet rags. Rinse the rags frequently. Then buff dry with a dry rag. Try not to over-saturate the flooring.

What you’re dealing with is just oil. Soap removes oil better than anything I know, and shaving cream is just whipped soap that rinses easily. The last thing you want to use on a floor is a soap that doesn’t rinse off easily.

If you have a microfiber cloth, use that. Microfiber cloths are wonderful for removing residue.

And I strongly recommend that you do NOT use a Magic Eraser. Magic Erasers are just glorified sandpaper. They will absolutely ruin laminate flooring.

    Good luck.

Try Vinegar!!! it will get rid of almost anything, I clean my whole house with a solution I make just out of water and vinegar :)

I would use dawn dish soap, since its made to lift grease and oil. You’re going to need to do one heavy application and several rinses though…

mix 7 oz vinegar with 14 oz water and a squirt of dish soap. I have used this solution to clean all kinds of messes and it works beautifully. It will not harm the finish on your laminate or vinyl floors. You may have to go over it a few times depending on how greasy it is. The dish soap cuts through the oil and the vinegar helps make the solution wipe up well without a sticky residue or streakiness.

Run warm water to moisten the sponge. Wring out any excess water or mix ½ cup of rubbing alcohol with 1 cup of warm water and try to mop the floor.
