Written by Guest on May 30th, 2011Question by ♀Serenity: What is a really good recipe for Chicken Fried Steak?
It is my husband’s favorite meal; his grandmother used to make it for him all the time. I can’t get the recipe from her because she is no longer with us but I want to find a really good recipe!! Thanks
Also, what are some good side dishes and accompaniments to this meal?

I went to AllRecipes.com and searched Chicken Fried Steak. The recipe with the most reviews (175) and highest rating (4.5) was this one. It received one rave review after another. I think I’ll print a copy for myself:

CHICKEN FRIED STEAK AND MILK GRAVY
2 cube steaks
3 eggs
2 tbsp. milk
1 c. flour
Salt & pepper as needed
Oil
In small bowl, slightly scramble eggs and milk together. Use second bowl for flour. Dip cube steaks in egg mixture, coating both sides, then dip into flour to coat. This process can be done twice for a thicker coating.
Brown cube steaks in a fry pan with a little oil until golden brown on both sides, about 10 to 15 minutes for each side.
Place cube steaks on broiler pan and bake in a 350 degree oven for 15 minutes. This allows the cube steaks to cook thoroughly. Remove and serve with mashed potatoes and milk gravy. Serves 2.
MILK GRAVY:
2 tbsp. butter
1/8 c. flour
Approx. 2 c. milk (to thicken)
Salt & pepper as needed
Melt butter in fry pan, using drippings from cube steaks. Add flour and stir; mixture will be pasty. Add milk to mixture, stirring constantly. When gravy begins to thicken, reduce heat and stir occasionally. Season to taste. Serve over chicken, pork chops, rice, etc.
AND FRIES AND MASHED POTATO’S GO GOOD AS SIDE DISHES.

This is my husband’s recipe since he’s a southerner at heart. Get 3 pans. In the first put flour with a bunch of salt, pepper, cayenne, chili powder and cumin. In the second whisk up a few eggs. In the third put breadcrumbs with the same seasonings. Dredge your cube steaks in the the first dish, then the egg, then the breadcrumbs. Fry in oil until cooked. Serve with mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans.
